Know Your Plumbing Vitals
Five years ago I woke up with the worst headache at the base of my neck. Thinking it was a sign of high blood pressure, I immediately scheduled to see my doctor.
After reading my vitals the doctor asked, “Why are you here?” Dumbfounded at her question I explained my symptoms, absolutely sure it was high blood pressure.
She shook her head at me and announced my blood pressure was normal. Then she asked if I could feel the large nodule at my throat. I had no clue what she was talking about. She placed my two fingers to my throat and sure enough there was a bulging knot.
She could see what I could not.
What I thought was a quick fix turned into a biopsy of my thyroid, then surgery to remove it, as the nodule showed signs of stage 1 cancer.
So how does this relate to Plumbing?
Often we as Homeowners try and self-diagnose when there is a much different problem.
For example, every week Basin Plumbing receives calls about low water pressure to the home. Homeowners are 100% sure it has to do with their main line or a possible leak. However, 9-times-out-of-10, it really is a water softener issue.
In fact, if you place the water softener on bypass your pressure should return to the home. However, your water softener may need some TLC, or it might be time for a new unit.
If you have a company who regularly provides softener maintenance, call them right away to come triage the problem. If you know the unit is old, give us a call to discuss your options.
Of course there are other plumbing matters that require diagnosis. Just like you would schedule an appointment with a doctor for your physical health, you can always call Basin Plumbing at 210-757-3008 for your home's plumbing health.
